The ideal feline candidate:

  • Weighs a lean 10 pounds or more
  • Is between the ages of 1 and 8 years old
  • Is currently on a preventative health care plan under the supervision of their family veterinarian
  • Has never received a transfusion
  • Has never been pregnant
  • Is friendly and outgoing
  • Is free from non-preventative medicines (heartworm and flea preventative is okay)
  • Is in general good health.
  • Is able to donate four times per year (once every two months)

Cat blood cannot be stored in the same way dog blood is kept. Feline donors must be available at the time a

transfusion is needed.  For cats we are creating a donor list. If you agree to be on the list, your cat will be screened in advance of any donation. If the need arises, we may call you and ask if you are available bring your cat in for a collection.
